  46. I have yet to purchase the software, but I know I am going
  47. to be using .IMG files (of which I know little or nothing about),
  48. AND am going to NEED to print these .IMG in a Postscript DTP
  49. environment...hence Pagestream comes to mind.  I have been holding
  50. off buying 1.82 due to the purported soon release of 2.x.
  51. I will have a TRUE PS printer shortly- the NEC Silent Writer 90.
  52.  
  53. My question:  Am I in for trouble in placing .IMG files into
  54. a Postscript format?  Should I expect loss or degradation in the
  55. conversion?  is there a conversion?  and, what .IMG editing tools
  56. are out there?  TOUCH_UP ? others?  Are .IMG typically large?
  57. And if converted to PS.. can I assume that were I to go to a
  58. printhouse for greater than 300dpi, i will be able to get the
  59. higher resolution for the graphics images?

  84.  .img files are simply compressed bit images.  So, to whatever degree
  85. PageStream distorts bitimages upon resizing is your only true worry.
  86. Bit for bit reproductions should be error free.

  90. Depends.  Some of my clip-art type scans with the geniscanner produce
  91.  .img files that are 1/6th the storage of a raw bitmap.

  113. I have heard that you could connect the Atari ST to the Atari 8-bits, and
  114. then store the 8-bit software on the 3.5'' disks that the ST uses.
  115.  
  116. I was wondering what all was involved in this process.  I know that you
  117. need the "Null Modem" cable, and that the 8-bit will need some sort of
  118. interface, probably the 850... after that, could you just use terminal
  119. software for each computer, and then "download" from the 8-bit to the ST??
  120.  
  121. Now... I have an Atari SX212 that has both the RS232 port for the ST and
  122. the port that the 8-bit uses.  Would it be possible to just use the modem
  123. as a link between the two??  Could I do so without the Null Modem, and
  124. just use my RS232???
  125.  
  126. ALSO:  I have heard that the ST can RUN about 90% of the 8-bit software if
  127. you have another hardware module... anyone else heard this??

  151. program which makes using GEM much quicker.  Now for a couple of queries ..

  153. 1. Why do most dialogues come up with the button letters underlined and some
  154.    don't ?  eg: Show info on a disk drive within Neodesk 3.0 doesn't give any
  155.    ALT-key combinations.

  158.    have an '!' icon on.  I don't really want to have to draw one by hand so

  220.     Could any kind soul send me detailed description (or even better
  221. a source code) of GIF,PCX,TIFF,IMG picture-formats and their creation.
  222. I need to do GIF,PCX,TIFF <-> IMG conversion for a friend who will
  223. very soon have to receive/store/retrive/"reformat"/send pictures in
  224. all those formats. I'v choosen IMG format as a base since it seems to
  225. be most widespread and easiest to manage but if GIF proves to be much
  226. more space efficient then it might became the base. The key point is
  227. that the whole proces will have to be done authomatically. Just to
  228. make things worse ih has to be done while user (my friend) is on-line
  229. and needs certain picture in a certain format and there is nobody home
  230. to do it (except his ST, of course :-). So, there is no chance that any
  231. paint program could be used for conversion and I'm very short with time
  232. and information (yes I have GIF.DOC but have no time to reinvent the
  233. wheel, although I usually like to do that :-).

  262. If you have a copy of VKILLER, version 3.0 or later, just do a KILL
  263. on the disk. The resulting bootsector, with all non-critical data
  264. zeroed, will also have the necessary values to be readable on any
  265. MS-DOS system.

  388. my own .MOD files on a standard 512K TOS 1.0 system?

  390. The programs on atari.archive: sync.lzh (demo), TCB Tracker (demo)
  391. and Noisetracker 1.5 all don't run or bomb most heinously. They all
  392. run fine on my friend's 1Meg TOS 1.4 system.

  437. the "box" that it creates to house the text?  In other words,
  438. can one place individual characters of text on top of a .IMG
  439. file without the "text in-a-box" approach?

  485. Hmmm..... Rufus (I'm using it now) seems to NOT update the screen (I
  486. keep having to do Control-L's in Emacs), I assume this is a setup
  487. problem..

  490. there a solution for this (NOT vi , I use Gnus, and VM for news and
  491. email almost exclusively )

  527. All I ever had was a comprehensive article in, I believe, ST Log.  It
  528. listed the usual dos and don'ts, and even the prefered menu contents
  529. and layout.  It may also have had other references - was hard to read
  530. though.  I 'll try and get you the exact reference this weekend or
  531. sooner.  Don't want to type it in, it's long and probably still copywrited.

  561. would not have to sell your color monitor.  Uniterm supports med and hi rez.
  562. It's also very fast, full-featured for main-frame and *nix systems, runs
  563. external programs (I run XYZ.TTP) with a mouse click for Zmodem), very
  564. powerfull script language and ability to use GDOS fonts.  Full GEM,
  565. and reliable code (not one crash in three years of use).  Lastly, it's
  566. in english, comes with extensive documentation, and is free.  Current
  567. version is 2.0e.  I love to use it with vi (if I have to) where I can click
  568. on the screen and the cursor goes there for editing.

  590. Well, I just picked up the latest Atari Explorer, in which they have a
  591. review of the Mega STe. Well, they also got into the new Extended Control
  592. Panel and how it does work on older ST's. I was wondering if this is going
  593. to be made available to current ST owners?

  617. I like cpanel but it doesn't like GEMINI!  Also, I followed the
  618. instructions for changing the SCRAPDIR and TRASHDIR values but it
  619. doesn't seem to work.  The trashdir gets moved, but that dern clipbrd
  620. keeps appearing on a hard partition that I don't want things to get
  621. scribbled on.  Is this a known bug?

  624. 1)  Does anyone have any information on the TOS 1.4 patches for STOS
  625.     My STOS is useless right now.  :-(

  648. colors (char. classes) mean?  Where do you go when you get transported
